The Guardian article that caught my attention the most was the one about our Manchester striker Wayne Rooney. He admitted that he gained a seven pounds over the long summer holiday blaming 'bevvies' for his weight gain. But he's not letting a few pounds stop him from being the best striker there is. He's stated that he'll tackle loosing the weight head on. "I drank a few bevvies while I was away. I'm stocky. I'm not like Ryan Giggs, all bone and lean muscle. But I gain weight quite easily. It's not a problem though." He's putting on a brave and positive attitude into loosing it.

Wayne's not upset or frightened that his managers will start calling him fat because he knows that he's able to shed it off in one or two weeks time. "There's no room for failure or second best at this club..." Talking about nutrition Rooney will start his strict diet until he's at his goal weight.
However Rooney hints that he could be struggling having the football lime light on him and having the pressure to score in all games. This has altered my views on football players. I didn't think that they have to maintain their weight and have strict diets and do so much to keep in shape.
